Gypsy tarot history

The gypsy tarot is a very peculiar tarot deck, that has a different deck from the commonly used in other tarots, with a special and different symbolism of other tarot decks, but its origin is linked to the other tarot variants therefore to better understand its origins, we must first go back to the origin of the tarot as such.

It is believed that was born in ancient Egypt because of its symbolism of the cards, although other researchers defend a medieval origin, specifically in the fifteenth century in Italy where it is believed that was born the first tarot deck, created by Filippo Maria Visconti. But regardless of its origin, which is something that is not clear, but what is clear it's that the gypsies were pioneered using the tarot as a means of divination and also achieved the damn Inquisition couldn't destroy the oracle, that might have been considered heretical evil.

Possible origins of gypsy tarot

The first thesis on the Lenormand deck or Gypsy leads to its name, as it is believed that was Mademoiselle Lenormand, a famous clairvoyant, who won fame by reading the cards to the French noble class in the late eighteenth century, which create and named this deck, this theory is supported by the characters that appear on the cards with their typical costumes of the time.

But there is another theory that says the Gypsy people was the discoverer of this deck, it would begin to be used because of its clarity and simplicity to extend its divination arts, particularly in Hungary (Budapest), but soon spread to the rest of Europe due on especially by the nomadic nature of the Gypsy.

Anyway, the gypsy tarot deck is a different and unique one, consisting of 36 cards in which characters appear, who by their dress seem high class and some landscapes, animals, places, that can be worth to predict and explain the most fundamental aspects of our life.
